Selected Profiles of Massachusetts Judges and Lawyers

Judith Nelson Dilday

Judge Dilday was appointed in 1993 to the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court as a Circuit Judge, becoming the first African American to serve on the Probate and Family Court. In 1998, she was appointed to a seat on the Middlesex Division of the Probate and Family Court, where she presently serves. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1966 and her law degree from Boston University Law School in 1974. She has also practiced law in the public and private sector. Prior to entering law school, she was a public school teacher in Pittsburgh.
