Selected Profiles of Massachusetts Judges and Lawyers

Frederick L. Brown

Judge Brown was appointed to the Massachusetts Appeals Court in 1976. He is the first African American to serve on the Appeals Court. He graduated from Harvard College in 1954 and from Harvard Law School in 1967. Prior to his appointment to the Appeals Court, Judge Brown served as Regional Counsel for the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. He has also taught at Boston University Law School and Northeastern Law School and has published a number of articles in scholarly legal journals.
