Lee, a member of Virginia’s House of Burgesses, was instrumental in forming the Committees of Correspondence, a major force uniting the Americans in their desire for independence, and established himself as a communications commander for the colonies. Less than a year after this letter was written, Richard Henry was chosen as one of the seven-man Virginia delegation to the first Continental Congress in Philadelphia.
