Thinking About History By thinking about the historical event within the context of the people involved, the conditions they lived in and the relationships they had, your research becomes an exploration of the people who participated in and lived during the time of the Battle of Bunker Hill. Just like you, they ate, went to work, and to school, had husbands and wives, children and friends, brothers and sisters, etc. It is useful to think about history as the stories of people and places, nations and eras. We, too, are part of the historic record. The sources you will encounter in your research journey will not only provide gateways to information about the people and societies of the past, they will help you place those people and events within the context of the historic record, and hopefully, provide insight for you to make connections with the past and compare them to your place within society and the historic record. |
