Remained at home and was engaged in preparing under instructions another very elaborate note to Lord Russell, about the difficulties in Canada. The rebels seem disposed to do all that is possible to involve the two countries. They may succeed yet, as the English lean far too much to their side. The morning and day light passed before I could get it done. The weather was very windy with rain. Nevertheless I went out and walked as far as the outside line of Acton toward London, and back.
