G. Bruce Robinson
(1902–1995)

A former Assistant Attorney General, Judge Robinson was appointed a Special Justice of the Boston Juvenile Court in 1948, becoming the first African American appointed to the Massachusetts bench in the 20th century. As a special judge, he also continued in the private practice of law and in that capacity, he successfully argued Crawford v. Kent before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (see Participation section of exhibit).
