By the 1760s, a robust market for sheet music made newly-composed British songs widely available for musically literate American consumers to collect, perform, and imbue with personal and political meaning. This talk addresses the development of this musical marketplace through its merchants, songs, and collectors who adapted the music to suit their changing cultural and political needs.
