Begin at the Beginning: Of One Blood? New England Slavery and Theology

The practice of slavery in the early modern Atlantic world generated a variety of theological debates about its nature, origins, and legitimacy.  In New England, Puritan Samuel Sewall proclaimed that God “hath made of One Blood, all Nations of Men.” But the debate about God and slavery continued.
