Samuel Eliot Morison attributed this early embroidered view of Harvard Hall at Harvard College to Mary Leverett, the daughter and granddaughter of Harvard presidents. The Latin motto found on the embroidery is from Virgil. It reads, "They keep out drones from these premises."
The Historical Society holds important collections for the history of education in Massachusetts and has published Biographical Sketches of Graduates of Harvard University ("Sibley's Harvard Graduates") since 1873.
Given circa 1795.
