Indexes:
Diaries
at the Massachusetts Historical Society
The Massachusetts
Historical Society, like many other libraries, creates internal subject
guides (or finding aids), like the MHS
Diary Index, to help researchers locate materials related to their
research. The unpublished diary database at the MHS has indexes arranged
alphabetically by name, chronologically by year, and by occupation.
It also contains an index of women's diaries. The drawback to this source
is that, at present, the only place you can consult the diary index
is in the MHS library.
Proceedings
and Collections:
Proceedings
and Collections of the Massachusetts Historical Society
If you are doing
research about the Battle of Bunker Hill, you will probably come across
references to the Massachusetts Historical Society's Proceedings
and Collections. These are published volumes and are available in
libraries throughout the country. The Proceedings record the
activities of the Society and include essays on a variety of subjects.
The Collections contain published primary source documents of
interest, as well as scholarly essays on various topics.
